“Mujer with a Movie Camera” was a season of films by female directors from Latin America which was presented on Sundays throughout November at Watershed in Bristol.
We support the amazing work of Lorena Pino Montilla, the season is part of her final work as a student of the MA in Curating at the University of the West of England on placement at Watershed.
The festival was a wonderful journey to reconnect with our culture and share the amazing work of women in the cinema industry, which is only sometimes recognised as it should be.
All the movies represented the big diversity and the challenges we go through as Latin Americans. The economic struggles, the violence, the desperation but also the creativity, the passion, the love, the courage and the resilience.
The invitation took us on a cinematic journey through Latin American countries with a selection of four films by contemporary female directors from the region that explore stories of women and young people at the margins of society.
We had the opportunity to meet and talk with some of the directors, and time to explore the creativity of the making process of the movies.
Wonderful experience and a great choice of movies. Thank you Lorena for this experience!
